What movie is this where an underwater creature eats the white oreo filling?
Q. It came out about ten years ago (possibly later). It was about a family whose mother died, and they went on a mini-vacation to a beach with a lighthouse. In one part of the movie, the father decides to "dig to China" and digs a massive hole in the sand. Somehow, the children discover that there is a creature in the water which likes the white filling in oreos, and they eventually find the creature in an underground cave. The creature is sick and I think it eventually dies. Does anyone remember what the name of this movie is?

How do you insert a CGI creature into a previously completed digital film?
Q. I've produced, shot, and edited a low-budget horror film. I need to add in a CGI creature at several points in the movie. What are the steps for rendering, compositing, etc. I know NOTHING about this.

A. Well you've got quite a bit of work on your hands. It's going to require a lot of skill, a lot of time, and some expensive software. You need a matchmover, someone that can "track" the shot into the computer so the CG creature can be placed in the environment and will match the camera movement. You need someone to model the create in 3D, rig it (create a skeleton for it), animate it (using the skeleton), and texture, light, and render it. Then you need a compositor to realistically composite the creature in the shot, preferably with multiple "passes" from the 3D guys (different "layers" including one for the creature's highlights, shadows, diffuse color, ambient occlusion, depth, hair, and potentially many more depending on the creature) [cont.]
