A book is a set or collection of written, printed, illustrated, or blank sheets, made of paper, parchment, or other various material, usually fastened together to hinge at one side. A single sheet within a book is called a leaf, and each side of a leaf is called a page. A book produced in electronic format is known as an electronic book (e-book).

Books may also refer to works of literature, or a main division of such a work. In library and information science, a book is called a monograph, to distinguish it from serial periodicals such as magazines, journals or newspapers. The body of all written works including books is literature. In novels and sometimes other types of books (e.g biographies), a book may be divided into several large sections, also called books (Book 1, Book 2, Book 3, etc). A lover of books is usually referred to as a bibliophile, a bibliophilist, or a philobiblist, or, more informally, a bookworm.

A store where books are bought and sold is a bookstore or bookshop. Books can also be borrowed from libraries.

What are some good american historical fiction books?
Q. i looking for books related to american wars for example revolutionary war, civil war, ww1,ww2 my english teacher forces his students to read, analize, write essays and get tested on his boring and out dated books about america history. he want the books that we read in his class to connect to other classes. his intentions are good but he needs to choose better books and give kids more options. Please reccomend books are exciting, will apeal to kids age 12-14 and appropriate for class. can you also reccomend books not relating to war but in the same time period. any good books related to physcial science are also helpful.

A. You should look into the author Ann Rinaldi, she writes excellent historical fiction for young readers both at the middle school and high school level and her books cover all the major events in history. Here are a couple: The Secret of Sarah Revere (Revolutionary War) An Acquaintance with Darkness (Civil War) A Break with Charity- (Salem Witch Trials) And she has many others. Excellent writer and she is used by a lot of classroom teachers although apparently not yours.

How many books should a fantasy book series have?
Q. I am 13 and trying to write a fantasy series (because i greatly admire J.K. Rowling and Stephenie Meyer) and i am almost finished with my first book. I was wondering how many words it should end up with and how many books should follow it. Help?

A. A series should have as many books as are necessary to tell the story, and no more. Novels for adults average around 100,000 words, but fantasy can be a bit longer. Novels for teenagers are shorter - around 60,000 words, I think. Tarzan and the Eternal Champion both have a lot of books in the series, but they don't tell one single continuing story - you can read some of the later books without needing to read all the earlier ones first.

Where can I find books to purchase in bulk for my lending library?
Q. I run a real estate development and we are going to be opening our Activity Center facility in the 6 weeks. My main project at this point is stocking our lending library. I have already purchased fiction and mystery books from our local library book sale. I am especially interested in tracking down high quality children's and non-fiction books, as well as reference books.

A. You could try to make deals with a local used bookstore or call around to thrift shops or Goodwill stores to see if they have any book lots.
