A crystal or crystalline solid is a solid material, whose constituent atoms, molecules, or ions are arranged in an orderly repeating pattern extending in all three spatial dimensions. The scientific study of crystals and crystal formation is crystallography. The process of crystal formation via mechanisms of crystal growth is called crystallization or solidification. The word crystal is derived from the Ancient Greek word κρύσταλλος (krustallos), meaning "rock-crystal" but also "ice", from κρύος (kruos), "icy cold, frost". The word once referred particularly to quartz, or "rock crystal".

Most metals encountered in everyday life are polycrystals. Crystals are often symmetrically intergrown to form crystal twins.

What are the crystals suitable for placing in the four corners of a room to remove negative energy?
Q. I read somewhere that one could remove negative energy by placing crystals in each corner of the room, however, they did not state the name of the crystals.
Asked by Stjerne - Tue May 26 20:58:21 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Do you really think rocks are going to remove negative energy? That's all crystals are, just rocks. And exactly what is negative energy? Can it be measured like other forms of energy? No it can't, because you can't measure an emotion, and that is all negative energy is. If you want to remove negative energy from a room, leave the room. Presto!

How do you make ice crystals for extra credit in science?
Q. Not the kind that like, "grows" on your ice cream and stuff... The manmade ice crystals you can make. I really need a "recipe" for school. Thank you! It has to take at least a week to grow.

A. Here's a link on how to grow ice crystals. It has a quick procedure using dry ice. If you need to do it slowly, you might try this: Use a container that has a tight snap-on lid, like an ice cream or cottage cheese container, and put a bit of damp sponge in the bottom plus something spindly for the crystals to grow on (i.e. straightened paper clips sticking up from a lump of clay, or something of that sort). Close the container, and put it in your freezer. The next day, either add another bit of wet sponge, or take the first one out and re-wet it. Do this quickly to keep the inside of the container cold. Repeat for a few days. I think this will grow crystals on the sponge bits or on the spindly apparatus. I think it will be very… [cont.]

What would be a good hypothesis for growing sugar crystals?
Q. I have started a science project on growing sugar crystals. I am nearly done with this project but i need help finding a good hypothesis for my project. So could someone please help and/or provide me with a hypothesis. Thank You!
Asked by L smith - Mon Nov 23 18:44:13 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You need to determine your hypothesis before you do your experiment. The hypothesis determines how you conduct the test, because you're trying to see if your hypothesis is supported or falsified. Example hypothesis: Crystals will form faster in solutions containing more sugar. You test this hypothesis by having two solutions, one containing more dissolved sugar than the other. You prepare the containers with each solution, and add your seed crystal, then observe and measure the growth of the crystals over time to see which grows faster. Other potential hypotheses might be that crystals would grow faster in warmer temperatures (solutions of the same concentration are put in two different areas of your home with different temperatures,… [cont.]
